No puppy for me?

A few days ago I posted about the fact that I'm thinking about getting a dog.

I am. I even thought out my fall schedule and how I could rearrange things so I could be around more, and even be at home every three hours for the first few months while we get her/him trained.

So, last night at dinner I talked to my hubby and kids about it and you know what?

Hubby doesn't want a dog.

Whaaa?

This is something new, up until now it was always ME who said 'no' to a dog.

Now, youngest daughter correctly says that Daddy only gets one vote, and since there's five of us we could out vote him on the whole issue.

Um, sort of.

Since hubby is sort of one of the 'senior members' of the family and the soul uh, 'kibble' winner, I feel have to take his feelings a little more seriously than that.

Sigh.

The problem is I've never HAD a dog. Nope, never and I'm over forty now. And I think I would like to experience having a dog in my life before I'm well, DEAD.

Now I don't know what to do. I'm having to rethink the whole puppy thing.

I was however out on the town reading blogs tonight and I did stumble upon a contest at 5 minutes for Mom where I could win one of the dogs they are giving away from their toy section.

They look cute, but some how I'm not sure it's gonna be the same. Still I'd like to win them, so go over there and put in a good word for me, mmkay?

I put in a good word for you - good luck! I really hope you win them.

So sad. I will put in a good word. I have never had a dog either, but I , also, have never wanted one. I prefer to just go pet my neighbors when I feel the need.

Why don't you apply for a guide dog puppy. It's not a permanent commitment and it's for a great cause.

Aww - hopefully you win one at least...

I am aching for a dog but still working on my hubby after several years...sigh.

You can borrow Sophie for the week as an experiment .... warning she is a real DIVA ...

Leeanne, I wish I could tell you what to do. But I've got a foot in both camps. Margie thinks I need another dog. I know that right now I don't. Chester might have been my dog of a lifetime. I can't get another one. But on the other hand (foot? paw?) I know that there is another dog out there and I do want one. I've decided to that the dog will come to me. We're not actively searching, but I'm pretty sure that one day, when I don't expect it, I'll be posting that I've got a new one.
Let instinct guide you on this one.
Cheers!
Kath

Oh, get a dog! I just got a new dog eventhough she's two years old, and it's a lot of fun. Not that it isn't work, it is, but they are great company and they don't talk back. I didn't get a puppy on purpose as they are a bit too much work for me at this time, but there are a lot of nice dogs out there that might need a rescue. We got a large lab who was crated for 8 or 9 hours a day. She loves her new home and freedom and I don't have chewed up furniture.

Thanks for stopping by my blog Leanne -- Oh, and I basically think that dogs are the most fabulous creature to have around. Sorry to my partner for that! Winston is such a wonderful little stink pot to have around & I love him so much :)
I just can't imagine NOT having a dog :D

We've never had a dog either...and my husband would LOVE one. I wonder how much longer I am going to win that arguement...

Hope you WIN!!

all right, that explains the dog envy. hubby may not want a dog but it's hard to not love a puppy. how old are the kids??? simply because it is highly unlikely that they will be of any help no matter how old they are, but it is a little like having a baby. but the puppy grows up faster.

wait wait you could trade a dog for the boat he wants!!! i'm brilliant.

As we say at our house "This is not a democracy" mom or dad's vote trumps all kid votes!!

Leanne, you MUST get a dog. And then delegate crap duty to someone.

Seriously though, I heart my dog. He's a lot of work, but totally worth it. Now I'm off to check out this link thingy you mentioned.

On a side note, I could NOT load your blog the last 2 nights. Tonight? No prob. Hmmmm.

It is tough that Daddy's vote tends to count more than the kids' votes.

Maybe you need to bring Daddy on some puppy viewing trips to see if you can get him to fall in love with the real thing.

Thanks for entering our fun, little adoption contest!
